The ebbs and flows of our culture are like a raging torrent in a river. Most will be fully submerged and at the mercy of its force. Others, perhaps out of wit or temperament, will firmly plant themselves on the shore and have nothing to do with it. But a select few will be like rafters on its surface. Committing themselves to the river, but never being fully engulfed; willing to get wet, but going to and from shore when they feel. The modern world is a crazy place and no matter how hard we try society will move around us in interesting, and sometimes disturbing ways. This forum is for the discussion of culture both irl and online from an anthropological perspective.
